Daniels Summit Lodge After a $6 million renovation, the rustic but elegant Daniels Summit Lodge is open for small corporate groups. The original Daniels Summit Lodge, at the edge of the Uinta National Forest in Park City, Utah, was built in 1907 as a general store. The lodge offers 50 rooms and state-of-the-art conference facilities.
Resort Suites of Scottsdale recently added 24 four-bedroom suites and a 3,600-square-foot open-air pavilion, which doubles the hotel's meeting space. The resort offers 488 rooms, including 312 one-, two-, and four-bedroom suites.
Adam's Mark Resort Daytona is spending $45 million on a major expansion project. When it is completed in late 2000, the property will offer 743 guest rooms and more than 60,000 square feet of meeting space.
The Grove Park Inn Resort in Asheville, N.C., is building a $13 million, 40,000-square-foot spa, to open in the spring of 2000. At that point, the 510-room property will be renamed the Grove Park Inn Resort and Spa. It offers 50,000 square feet of meeting space.
International Conference Resorts has completed a $13.5 million expansion of the Carefree Conference Resort in Carefree, Ariz., north of Scottsdale. The project added the 10,000-square-foot Saguaro meeting room; the Mesquite Dining Room, seating 400 guests; a business center; and 66 guest rooms, bringing the total to 249 rooms, suites, and casitas.
Wyndham Hotels & Resorts will open a 362-room hotel in the heart of Boston's financial district, after a $40 million redevelopment of the city's historic Batterymarch Building. The Wyndham Boston Hotel, to open in the second quarter, will be owned by Patriot American Hospitality and managed by Wyndham International. The hotel will offer 10,000 square feet of meeting space, a business center, and a fitness center.
The topping out ceremony for The Resort at Summerlin, incorporating The Regent Grand Palms and The Regent Grand Spa, was celebrated recently. The resorts, located in the upper valley of Las Vegas, will offer a combined 540 rooms. Each will have its own entrance and its own, stand-alone casino.
The Philadelphia Marriott is expanding into the historic Reading Terminal Headhouse, adding 210 concierge rooms and bringing total guest rooms to 1,410. Meeting space is being expanded to 100,000 square feet. A 1,200-square-foot outdoor terrace is also available. The project will be completed in June.
The 197-room Radisson Hotel in Gainesville, Fla., is now the Sheraton Gainesville Hotel. All rooms were renovated in mid-1998. One floor (35 rooms) will be converted to Smart Rooms, which feature expanded in-room workspace, data-ports, and a combination fax/copier/printer. The lobby and meeting space will be renovated and an addition will bring total meeting space to 13,750 square feet.
The 404-room Crowne Plaza San Francisco Airport in Burlingame, Calif., has become the Sheraton Gateway Hotel San Francisco International Airport. The hotel is undergoing a $2.5 million expansion and will join four other Sheraton Gateway Hotels at key international gateway cities in the United States and Canada that offer special services to meet the needs of international travelers, including 24-hour room service and cuisine designed to combat the effects of jet lag. Ten meeting rooms offer more than 10,000 square feet of meeting space. This month, the hotel launches construction of a 136-room tower with 16,000 square feet of meeting space and two bay-view pre-function spaces of more than 6,000 square feet.
The Ramada Plaza in Tempe will be converted to the Sheraton Phoenix Airport Hotel. The 210-room hotel recently spent $6 million on a major refurbishment, including adding a fitness center and Club Level rooms. Ten meeting rooms and a grand ballroom offer more than 10,000 square feet of meeting space.
The Radisson Hotel Atlanta will become the Sheraton Atlanta Hotel. A $28 million renovation, due to be completed in May, will redo the lobby, public areas, all 765 guest rooms, and add 12 meeting rooms, bringing total meeting space to more than 60,000 square feet.
Millennium Hotels and Resorts opened the group's first four-star property in France last month with the Millennium Commodore Paris. The 163-room hotel combines luxury with technology. Rooms feature phones with voice mail, desks with data-ports, and fiber-optic wiring. Four board rooms and six meeting rooms offer 4,900 square feet of meeting space.
Puerto Rico's Las Casitas Village has joined the portfolio of Wyndham International's luxury brand, Grand Bay. As at all Grand Bay resorts, a full-service Golden Door spa recently opened at Las Casitas Village, which offers 90 casitas with one to three bedrooms and fully equipped kitchens. Guests have access to the amenities of the adjacent Wyndham El Conquistador Resort & Country Club, including a casino and18-hole golf course.
At the 158-room Park Hyatt Sydney, guests can access the Internet from their own rooms via a television and an infrared (cordless) keyboard. Each room has two separate phone lines, a data line, and modem line. Guests also are given personal e-mail addresses, maintained in the hotel's guest history for use on successive visits.
The Hilton Hanoi Opera hotel in Hanoi, Vietnam, opened last February. The boutique-style hotel offers 269 rooms and meeting space for up to 400 attendees.
The Four Seasons Resort Nevis in the West Indies has redesigned and expanded its fitness center, doubled the size of its pro shop, and added an airport lounge. The 196-room resort offers more than 3,400 square feet of meeting space.
The Hotel Pelikan in Hanover, Germany, is now the ArabellaSheraton Pelikan Hotel, operating under ArabellaSheraton, a joint venture of Starwood Hotels & Resorts Sheraton subsidiary and Germany's Schoerghuber Group. The 138-room hotel offers more than 7,500 square feet of meeting space.
The Westin Soberano, Chihuahua is Westin's ninth hotel in Mexico. The 204-room hotel is 15 minutes from downtown Chihuahua and offers meeting space for groups from 10 to 1,400 people, featuring videoconferencing and simultaneous translation.
