Meeting Professionals International signed a deal with Teamware Inc. March 1, clearing the way for an early June launch of its online community, Meeting Industry eXchange. MPI's members-only networking site will offer a number of communication tools, including threaded discussions, document posting, and real-time live chats.

MPI's Kerrie Wade, manager of online forums, will monitor and facilitate MIX, which is being sponsored by Hilton Hotels Corp. The association also plans to generate discussion by bringing in industry experts to lead live chats on specific hot topics.

“Most members only experience MPI at the local chapter level; this will give them a chance to network with members all over the world,” says Kelly Schulz, MPI manager of communications. MIX also supports the MPI strategic plan, says Schulz, by providing more business opportunities for supplier members.

Teamware, which has U.S. offices in Falls Church, Va., has implemented Web communities for numerous associations, including the American Gastroenterology Association, the Association of Research Professionals, and Web Services Interoperability Organization.
