Add this to your paperless, virtual office: the FaxView Personal Fax Reader. This 7.8-ounce gadget (on facing page, top) can receive a fax or e-mail anywhere there's a telephone line or a cellular phone. Once the fax comes in, just peer into the FaxView to read the page, which appears to be floating inside the viewing window. The user can scroll through the fax, zoom in on it, or store it (up to 25 pages).

Faxes can also be sent from the FaxView, but not as effortlessly as it receives them, because typing out a message on the "virtual keyboard" is a cumbersome job. Once you call up the keyboard in the little window, you must scroll to each letter and then select it. The designers have included a menu of common words and phrases, which helps a little, and the unit can store up to 100 names and fax numbers.

With a refillable alkaline battery pack, FaxView lists for $299; with a rechargeable NiCad battery pack and AC adapter, the cost increases about $50. For more information, contact Reflection Technology, 230 Second Avenue, Waltham, MA 02154; (800) 670-4FAX.
