The Society of& Travel Executives recognized companies' most dazzling incentive efforts with its highest honor, The Crystal Award. Winners for 1999 were honored at a luncheon at Bellagio in Las Vegas, site of the organization's international conference, in December.

The Blind Maker The winning program in the Crystal Awards' top category, "Creative Use of Incentive Travel to Solve a Marketing Problem" exemplifies the trend toward rewarding people with what they value most: family time. Priscilla Hicks, vice president and co-owner of The Blind Maker, Austin, Texas, built the company's dealer program around families. Children at this year's program in Hawaii had activities such as hula-dancing lessons, after which they danced for the group. Trivia contests and team games were planned for families, and kids were invited to the nightly theme parties.
Hicks says the program has given the company a definite edge over the competition. "Most of our dealers have family businesses," she notes. "Sometimes, this is the only family vacation they get. Our competitors don't do anything like it."
Once a year, SITE awards the most prestigious honor in the incentive industry, The Crystal, to companies that have successfully used incentives to increase performance.
