Opened in spring 2002, the Lodge at Torrey Pines, on 6.5 acres in La Jolla, Calif., overlooking the Pacific Ocean, has 175 guest rooms and a 9, 500-square-foot spa. The spa offers a full menu of treatments using marine and botanical-based products from Phytomer and Babor. The Lodge, adjacent to the 18th green of the Torrey Pines Golf Course, has 13,000 square feet of meeting and banquet space.

The Spa at the Hotel Hershey is undergoing an expansion that will nearly double its size when it is completed in time for the 2004 year-end holiday season. The project, which broke ground in December, entails an expansion from 17,000 square feet to 30,000 square feet, a new lounge and restaurant for spa guests, the addition of 23 treatment rooms (for a total of 53), and a separate hair and nail salon. The resort is also undergoing a $2 million room renovation in the first three months of 2004, focusing on the 120 rooms of the hotel's main building.

In San Diego, the new spa at the Pala Casino Resort & Spa has many innovative offerings, including outdoor rain showers, eucalyptus steam rooms, and an exfoliating orange crush sugar scrub.The Pala, which added a 507-room, 10-story tower last summer, is the only casino between Los Angeles and San Diego with a full-service spa.

The Ritz-Carlton Spa, Grande Lakes Orlando, opened in July. The three-level, 40,000-square-foot facility offers 40 treatment rooms, a 4,000-square-foot private lap pool, a 6,000-square-foot wellness center, and the Spa Café Vitale. The spa also launched the first Carita Institute and Salon in Florida, offering luxury skin care and a commitment to “the pursuit of perfect skin.”

The 730-room Omni Orlando Resort at ChampionsGate, Florida, will open in October. It will have two 18-hole, Greg Norman — designed championship golf courses, 70,000 square feet of meeting space, and a 10,000-square-foot spa.

The Marco Island Marriott Resort, Golf Club & Spa last year completed its new 24,000-square-foot Balinese health spa. It offers traditional Balinese therapies in 24 treatment rooms and outdoor seaside treatment terraces. The resort has 60,000 square feet of meeting space.
