WingateWeb, which has made a name for itself among organizers of user group conferences, has brought down the price of its event management software with the release of Conference 3.5. The reduction is an effort to appeal to medical meetings and smaller, content-heavy events.

WingateWeb developed its event software in the late 1990s when Novell contracted it to build a system that could manage its giant user group conference, Brainshare. WingateWeb retained rights to the product and since then has found a string of clients ready to pay $150,000 and up to manage content-heavy meetings, including the recent Oracle World in San Francisco, as well as events by BEA Systems, Intel, and HP.

The system, which is built on a central database and can be accessed via the Web, can handle everything from registration and hotel room blocks to session access control, speaker management, call for papers, badging, and document collaboration. The new version of the product, which has the same functionality but is built to require less customization, is selling for $50,000 and up per meeting. An enterprise version of the product is due out in early 2004.
