Asia/Pacific on the Upswing; China Leads Hotel Pipeline

STR Global data from February show solid increases in all three metrics for Asia/Pacific hotels. Occupancy was up nearly 5 percent to 60.6 percent, average daily rate was up 16.2 percent to $131.36, and revenue per available room came in at $79.65, up 21.6 percent.

Meanwhile, China leads the way by far in new hotel development, with some 127,000 rooms in the pipeline. Wyndham recently added three new luxury hotels in China and followed that with the announcement that four more luxury hotels are in development there, which will join the Wyndham Grand Collection. Starwood’s largest pipeline outside the United States is in China, where the company will double its hotels to 100 by 2012.
