FICP Picks L.A. Live for 2012

New site follows Miami in 2010 and San Antonio in 2011

Financial & Insurance Conference Planners is going glam for its 2012 conference—which will be the association’s 55th annual gathering—announcing the new L.A. Live sports and entertainment complex as the meeting site.

The 123-room Ritz-Carlton, Los Angeles, and the adjacent 826-room JW Marriott at L.A. Live will serve as host hotels. Javier Cano, general manager for both properties, each set to open in February, traveled to Toronto to bring FICP attendees the news in the midst of this year’s conference. “Ten years ago, the creators of L.A. Live had a vision of the rebirth of downtown L.A.,” Cano told the crowd. Now that vision is reality, with the Staples Center, Nokia Theater, 14 restaurants, and other retail outlets opened or planned directly across from the two hotels.

But before it heads west, FICP hits the Sunshine State: The 2010 annual conference is set for November 17 to 20 at the Fontainebleau Miami Beach, still sparkling from its $1 billion restoration and reopening a year ago. The 2010 Design Team already has held its first meeting, and Anne Erickson, director of national accounts, insurance, at the Fontainebleau, urged attendees at this year’s conference to get ready for “sun, fun, and education” next year. (Note that the 2010 conference will shift from the usual Sunday-to-Wednesday pattern to a Wednesday-to-Saturday pattern.)

And, as first announced last year, the Grand Hyatt San Antonio will host the FICP group in 2011.
