Caesars Palace, Las Vegas

The News: Caesars has unveiled five new “Garden of the Gods” pools.

Specs: The expansion brings the number of pools at the property to eight and now offers “swim-up gaming.” The property features 3,300 rooms, 23 restaurants, eight pools, the 50,000-square-foot Qua Baths & Spa, a 4,300-seat Colosseum, 129,000 square feet of gaming, retail shops, and 300,000 square feet of meeting space.


Mandarin Oriental, Las Vegas

The News: The new 47-story hotel opened in December at CityCenter.

Specs: The nongaming resort offers more than 12,000 square feet of meeting space, including the 7,650-square-foot Oriental Ballroom. It has 392 rooms; six dining facilities; a two-level, 27,000-square-foot spa; and a pool with 20 cabanas.


One Atlantic, Atlantic City, N.J.

The News: The new independent event venue opened in January above the Pier Shops at Caesars Hotel & Casino. Specs: The space stretches 100 yards out over the Atlantic Ocean, with breathtaking views of the beach, Boardwalk, and skyline. It features 10,000 square feet of event space and a 2,000-square-foot outdoor terrace. One Atlantic can accommodate events with 20 to as many as 1,000 guests. Catering is provided by Philadelphia-based catering company Peachtree & Ward.

Extra: The venue offers a “100-mile menu” that promotes eco-consciousness, with all ingredients sourced from no more than 100 miles away.


Harrah’s Cherokee Casino & Hotel, Cherokee, N.C.

The News: The property will open a new 3,000-seat Events Center this September as part of its $633 million expansion, which is scheduled for completion in 2012.

Specs: Expansion plans also include the addition of a third tower with 532 guest rooms (for a total of 1,108 rooms), an 18,000-square-foot spa, a variety of new restaurant and retail outlets, and new parking garages. The casino will double in size to 195,000 square feet. The hotel currently offers a 15,000-square-foot conference center and three restaurants.


The Ritz-Carlton, Lake Las Vegas

The News: Citing the floundering economy, the property, along with its Casino Montelago, will officially shut its doors on May 2.
