Green Alliance Event to Explore Renewable Energy for Meetings
The Convene Green Alliance, a membership organization of more than 60 associations and industry partners, will hold an educational event June 19, at the JW Marriott Hotel Pennsylvania Avenue in Washington, D.C. The event will explore renewable energy sources for the meetings and hospitality industries and help to educate planners on how they can achieve energy and cost savings through partnerships with destinations that are investing in these technologies.
This will be the Aalliance’s second educational event since its formation in December 2007. Founded by 16 associations—including the National Recycling Coalition, the American Wind Energy Association, and the World Food Logistics Organization—CGA was created to provide the association and meetings communities with tools for developing green policies and reducing the environmental impact of their organizations and their events.
Featured presenters at the June 19 meeting will include representatives from the American Wind Energy Association, who will provide an overview of the use of renewable energy sources, and representatives from the Atlantic City Convention and Visitors Authority, who will discuss its planned investments in solar and wind power for its convention center’s energy needs.
Event registration—as well as membership in the Alliance—is complimentary. For more information and to register, go to www.convenegreen.com.

The Accepted Practices Exchange (APEX), an initiative of the Convention Industry Council, is working with the Environmental Protection Agency and ASTM International Standards to create baseline guidelines that both meeting managers and the hospitality community can embrace.
