About 400 employees will lose their jobs.
The grand, 349-room, lakefront resort opened to much fanfare in 2003. Its owners, Village Hospitality LLC (an arm of Deutsche Bank), purchased it just last year after the previous owners went into reorganization. It is uncertain what they plan to do with the property in the future.
“It’s a sad reality of the economic decline in travel and tourism and especially of the disproportionate impact it’s had on the Las Vegas area,” said Ritz-Carlton spokeswoman Vivian Deuschl in an interview with the Las Vegas Sun yesterday.
“When the economy was good, this hotel was an extremely popular destination resort. It’s been one of the real jewels in the crown of the company for us," said Deuschl.
Her company is working with meeting planners who have events booked after May 2 to relocate those to other Ritz-Carltons or Marriotts in the region.
