Starwood Introduces Sustainability Guidelines
Highlights
Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide has introduced sustainable-meeting guidelines at all its North American properties and will expand the program globally in 2011.The Sustainable Meeting Practices program features 18 new practices that the 1,000-plus property hotel company will incorporate into all on-property meetings and events, including sustainable menu choices, bottled water alternatives, and energy-efficient digital signage. A new online tool will generate a report that demonstrates the impact of a client’s meetings on the environment.
“There’s already a strong sensitivity toward sustainability concerns from meeting planners,” said Sandy Swider, Starwood’s vice president for global citizenship. “We think the next generation of meeting planners and attendees will simply expect green practices and sustainability initiatives as a given for meetings and facilities.”
