Zagat’s Picks in Hospitality

According to Zagat's 2007 U.S. Hotels, Resorts and Spas Survey, the Four Seasons retains its position as the top hotel chain, The Peninsula Chicago was the top hotel with 100 rooms or more, and the Four Seasons Big Island, Hawaii, was the No. 1 large resort. On the city level, the 14,461 frequent travelers and 936 travel professionals who rated and reviewed for the survey named New York City the top destination, followed by Washington, D.C., San Francisco, Las Vegas, and Chicago. New York also was named as having the highest room rates, while Denver was found to be the most economical when it comes to hotel rooms.

Seventy-five percent also said they used the Web to book travel; Expedia was the booking site of choice. Other top picks:

  • Top dining award: Virginia’s Inn at Little Washington
  • Top hotel spa: the Four Seasons Wailea in Maui
  • Top standalone spa: California’s Golden Door
  • Top golf course: the Straits Course at Whistling Straits Golf Club in Wisconsin (It got a perfect score on the Zagat scale of 0 to 30.)
