Jamaica Meeting Properties Update

The new Montego Bay Convention Centre has opened in Rose Hall, Jamaica, 15 minutes from Montego Bay’s Sangster International Airport. The center represents a major step in Jamaica’s ongoing efforts to enhance its offerings for both business and leisure travelers. “The new Montego Bay Convention Centre is key to expanding our appeal to corporate travelers and meeting planners,” said Director of Tourism John Lynch of the Jamaica Tourist Board. The center provides more than 50,000 square feet of exhibition space, more than 20,000 square feet of banquet space, and more than 11,000 square feet of meeting space.

Also in Jamaica, the Historic Falmouth Cruise Port officially opened in March 2011, offering historic tours, shopping, and other visitor experiences in and around the port.

The Palmyra, a Solis Resort & Spa in Rose Hall, Montego Bay has opened with a variety of luxury apartments, penthouses, and villas. offers 23,000 square feet of indoor and outdoor meeting space, including the 5,500-square-foot Palmyra Ballroom. Five additional breakout rooms, ranging in size from 340 square feet to 1,000 square feet, are also available for smaller groups. The resort offers ESPA, a 30,000-square-foot spa, along with championship golf at three of the Caribbean’s most prestigious courses.

AMResorts, provider of sales, marketing, and brand management services for Zoëtry Wellness & Spa Resorts, and Secrets, Dreams and Now Resorts & Spas, marked its Jamaican debut with the opening of a $180 million, two-resort complex in spring 2010. Secrets Wild Orchid Montego Bay, with a design honoring the culture and tropical beauty of Jamaica, and sister property Secrets St. James Montego Bay, with its British Colonial–style architecture, each offer 350 suites. Guests of each have access to 16,000 square feet of meeting space, the 15,000 square foot Secrets Spa by Pevonia, the Seawind Beach Club, and The Promenade, offering a host of activities, boutiques, and entertainment and dining options centered around a main plaza.

The celebrated GoldenEye Hotel & Resort in Oracabessa, where Ian Fleming penned many of his James Bond novels, has added new cottage options to its 22 rooms and villas, following a major refurbishment program.
