Overlooking the Vieux Port of Marseille, the 194-room InterContinental Marseille will be housed in the former Hotel Dieu, a building dating back to the 18th century. Located in the historic neighborhood known as Panier, the hotel will feature a quiet outdoor terrace with views of the port and the Notre Dame de la Garde Basilica.
Meeting space will accommodate up to 400 for a reception, or 200 classroom-style. On-site amenities will include a spa and a gourmet restaurant.
Renovations to the hotel are estimated to take two years, with opening currently scheduled for early 2013. During excavation and construction, a number of archeological artifacts have been uncovered, including the remains of a medieval church and a stone floor dating back to the Roman period. A dedicated so-called Cultural Space has been created within the hotel to display some of these artifacts.
