In September, both, the two-year-old Ellicott City, Md.-based provider, and San Francisco — based Certain Software launched new disabilities-accessible versions of their online registration systems that are compliant with Section 508 guidelines from the Architectural and Transportation Barriers Compliance Board of the federal government. For people with visual impairments, the new EventRebels registration page is coded so it can be read by browsers that convert Web pages to the spoken word. There is also alternate text for all images, and the pages are designed so that they have high contrast for easy reading and never convey information by color alone (for color-blind individuals).

For Certain Software, the Section 508 compliance is part of a new enterprise version of its Register123 software (whose meeting technologies include Meeting Planner Plus, Register123, and Event Planner Plus). Register123 Enterprise is a version of its online registration product that includes planner and attendee interfaces compliant with Section 508 of the Americans with Disabilities Act. It allows users to install the online registration system on their own Web and database servers.
