Clip and Save! Data Projection Setup

Use this checklist of equipment details and operating instructions to make data projection setup smooth. This is designed for a Proxima DP 5600 data projector. You and your presenters should be able to use it with little or no modification, but I encourage you to have your own media personnel check it for compatibility with your company's models and brands of data projectors.

Equipment List * Data projector

* Lens cap

* Power cord

* Extension cord

* 15-pin VGA cable

* Multiple-outlet strip

* Remote control

* Instruction manual

* Two wooden blocks

Operating Instructions 1.Power Up the Data Projector

Unpack the data projector and accessories from the case. Set the projector onto a table or cart just far enough away to fill the screen with your projected image. (Use the wooden blocks to elevate the front of the projector if needed.) Use the 15-pin VGA cable to connect your laptop/desktop to the "computer in" jack on the side of the projector. Connect the power cord to the back of the projector, and then to a wall outlet.

Turn on the red ON/OFF switch at the back of the projector. Press the orange POWER button (either on top of the projector or on the remote control) to turn on the projector's lamp and extend its lens.

Remove the lens cap.

Boot up the desktop/laptop computer.

2. Power Down the Data Projector

Press the orange POWER button once to turn off the projector's lamp. The lower right-hand corner of the data projector's screen will prompt you with "Power Off?" Press the orange POWER button a second time to acknowledge this prompt and start the power-down process. After about 90 seconds, you will see a green READY light. Once it's activated, turn off the red ON/OFF switch located at the back of the projector. (Note: Do not turn off the red ON/OFF switch on the back of the projector until you have followed the above procedure. Doing so may interrupt the projector's cooling-off process and disable the machine for an hour or more.) Replace the lens cap.

Turn off the desktop/laptop. Disconnect the 15-pin VGA cable between the projector and the desktop/laptop. Disconnect the power cord from both the projector and the wall.

Repack the projector and its accessories into the projector case, and return the unit to your Media Services Department. (Double check that you've included all of the accessories with the unit so it will be ready for the next customer.)

Troubleshooting 1. No power

* Plug the projector into an AC outlet.

* Turn on the red ON/OFF button located on the back of the projector.

* Press the orange button to activate the lamp.

* If the projector has been turned off, wait about 90 seconds before turning it back on.

* Check the temperature warning indicator; if it flashes red, the projector cannot be turned on.

2. Image out of focus

* Adjust the focus.

* Move the projection screen so it's at least 3.6 feet from the projector.

* Check for condensation on the lens. This can occur if the projector is moved to a warm location from a cool one (for example, from the trunk of a cold car to a warm breakout room). If condensation is present, the projector must be left off until it disappears.

3. Remote control not working

* Check the remote control unit's batteries.

* Make sure the infrared sensor is not blocked.

4. No image or a distorted image

* Make all the cable connections before booting up the computer.

* Check the connection between the computer and the projector.

* Push the MODE button on the remote to select between "video" and "computer."

* * Make sure the computer's resolution is set at 800 x 600. (In Windows 95, select Start/Settings/ControlPanel/Display/Settings/Desktop area.)

5. No image using the laptop

* On the laptop, locate the function key labeled with either a monitor symbol or with the letters CRT/LCD (usually the F4, F5, or F12 key). Next, locate the key labeled FN on the lower left-hand corner of the keyboard. While holding down the FN key, toggle the function key until the same computer image can be seen on both the laptop and the LCD projector.

Happy projecting!*
