In the somber aftermath of September 11, attendees at the Insurance Conference Planners Association 2001 Annual Meeting gathered together not only to learn but to celebrate industry solidarity and fellowship. Planners and suppliers alike demonstrated what final keynote speaker Steve Rizzo described as “a positive belief system” and an attitude of “laughing off the fear.”

Held November 11 to 15 at Atlantis, Paradise Island, Bahamas, the meeting was filled with entertaining speakers, useful educational sessions, and fun social events. On their afternoon off, attendees enjoyed a range of activities in the balmy Bahamas sunshine, including deep-sea fishing and sailboat racing.

Of many memorable evenings, none topped the “Sea-sational” fete sponsored by The Islands of The Bahamas at the Radisson Cable Beach Resort in Nassau. Picture a ballroom transformed by brightly colored tropical decorations and ice sculptures running the length of each table. These weren't just spectacular centerpieces, but functional raw bars carved out of ice. Attendees sat down to face their own personal raw bar loaded with crab, lobster, shrimp, and ceviche — and even icy-cold drinks nestled in ice chips. There was also a sumptuous buffet, and a poolside party with dessert and a dance band. And to top it all off, a grand fireworks display that rivaled the most spectacular July 4th celebrations.
