A member of ICPA for more than 30 years, Marilyn Sylvester retired as assistant vice president of AXA Financial in New York City at the end of 2002—but not before receiving a standing ovation at the ICPA Annual Meeting in Seattle.

Sylvester joined AXA’s actuary department in the early 1960s, and moved over to the department responsible for planning meetings two years later. It was uphill all the way from there.

What has changed most in the past 30 years ? Sylvester cites the rise in professionalism and the changes brought about by new technologies.

Other than volunteering, Sylvester has no specific plans for retirement, but she doesn’t dismiss the possibility of consulting. And as an honorary member of ICPA, you can expect to see her at future association meetings.
