Benchmark Hospitality has appointed Todd Gillespie director of sales and marketing for Glade Springs Resort in Daniels, W.Va. Previously, Gillespie was national sales manager at The Greenbrier in White Sulphur Springs, W.Va. Glade Springs Resort features the 18-hole George W. Cobb Golf Course, which was recently listed as a “Top West Virginia Course” by Golf Week and Golf Digest magazines.
William Van Loon has been named vice president of incentive industry sales at The Pinehurst Co., based in Pinehurst, N.C., and Andy Finn has been appointed senior vice president, sales. Van Loon was previously senior travel program manager for Maritz Travel Co., where he designed incentive travel programs. Finn was most recently vice president of sales, resorts, and specialty markets for Starwood, based in Chicago. The Pinehurst Co. features a collection of luxury golf destinations, including Pinehurst; The Homestead in Hot Springs, Va.; Barton Creek in Austin, Texas; and Palmilla in Los Cabos, Mexico.
Randy O. Hernly has been appointed director of golf for Benchmark Hospitality's new Stonewall Resort, set to open this summer in Weston, W.Va. The resort's Arnold Palmer Signature Golf Course opened May 30. Hernly had been golf operations director for Glade Springs Resort in Beckley, W.Va., also a Benchmark Hospitality property.
Gary Anderson has been appointed director of golf instruction for the Mission Inn Golf Academy at Mission Inn Golf and Tennis Resort in Howey-in-the-Hills, Fla., 35 minutes northwest of Orlando. The resort offers 36 holes of championship golf. Anderson was most recently director of golf instruction for Fox Run in Elk Grove, Ill.
At Boca Raton Resort & Club, Shari D. Orland has been named national sales manager, responsible for groups of 50 or fewer, and Christine Tascione has been named associate director of sales. Tascione will be in charge of incentive accounts. Orland joins the resort from Accor Hotels' Sofitel Hotel and Novotel Hotel New York, where, since 1997, she was director of corporate business. Tascione most recently served for three years as director of sales at Sheraton Boston. Boca Raton Resort & Club offers three 18-hole championship golf courses, three tennis courts, and a 50,000-square-foot spa, along with a half-mile stretch of private beach.
In St. Charles, Ill., Karen Wiley has been named vice president of sales at Pheasant Run Resort & Spa, which features a championship 18-hole golf course.
Matt Alagna is the new director of group sales for Abbey Group Resorts in Wisconsin. Abbey Group includes The Inns of Geneva National, which features Arnold Palmer, Gary Player, and Lee Trevino signature courses.
The Scottsdale (Ariz.) Convention & Visitors Bureau has hired Lauren LoBue as its newest convention sales manager. LoBue will be in charge of corporate and association sales in Northern California and the West Coast.
The Resort at The Mountain in Welches, Ore., has hired Janet Eichner as director of sales. Eichner, previously director of sales, catering, and marketing for the Sheraton Portland Airport Hotel, will oversee the resort's group sales and event planning. The resort offers 27 holes of golf.
Alex Doyle has been appointed as the new director of sales and marketing for Benchmark Hospitality's Turtle Bay Resort in Oahu, Hawaii, and Mark Lupfer has been appointed as director of sales. Turtle Bay Resort features two 18-hole golf courses.
Janice C. Pollock has been appointed senior account manager at Kiawah Island Resorts in South Carolina. She will represent Kiawah Island Inn, The Villas at Kiawah Island Resorts, and a new oceanfront hotel to open in February 2004. Kiawah Island, renowned for its golf, is 21 miles south of Charleston. Pollock will be based in Charlotte, N.C.
Joseph DeMille has been named director of sales and marketing for The Westin Diplomat Resort & Spa, which opened in January in Hallandale Beach, Fla. The resort has an 18-hole championship golf course. DeMille was most recently director of sales and marketing for The Westin Savannah (Ga.) Harbor Resort.
