Sonesta International Hotels Corp. has appointed David C. Fine regional director of marketing at Sonesta Beach Resort in Key Biscayne, Fla. He will oversee all sales and marketing efforts at Sonesta Key Biscayne as well as Sonesta Hotel & Suites Coconut Grove (Fla.) and the Trump International Sonesta Beach Resort in Sunny Isles, Fla. (opening late 2002). Fine is the former vice president of sales and revenue development at Doral Golf Resort & Spa Miami. Also at Sonesta, Scott McAbee was named national sales manager, Sonesta Hotel & Suites Coconut Grove, which opened in April. Before joining Sonesta, McAbee held various sales management positions at Doubletree Hotels of Miami.

The Breakers Palm Beach (Fla.) has opened a regional sales office in Dallas, headed by Robert Sawyer. He will be responsible for incentive sales in the South Central region. Sawyer has been with The Breakers for two years.

Martin Finch was recently named regional director of sales for Fiesta Americana and Fiesta Americana Grand Hotels and Resorts. Finch will be responsible for incentive and group sales in Southern California, Arizona, Utah, and Colorado. Finch has held management and sales positions with The Manele Bay Hotel and Lodge at Koele, The Mauna Kea Beach Hotel, and LuxuryLink.com.

At the Phoenix Convention and Visitors Bureau, several promotions were announced recently: Scott White has been promoted to vice president of sales, James Jessie to director of sales, and Andrew Hatton to associate director of sales. The new director of convention services will be Bonnie Jarvis, who joins the GPCVB from Hilton Suites Phoenix, where she was director of sales and marketing.

At the Arizona Biltmore Resort & Spa in Phoenix, Alex Moro has been promoted to associate director of sales. He will be responsible for sales in the Northeast.

At the San Francisco Convention and Visitors Bureau, Sally Henderson, director of sales, is retiring after 18 years with the bureau. Succeeding her is Lysa Lewin, who joined the SFCVB in October 2000 as national sales manager, convention center accounts. Previously, Lewin was regional vice president, sales and operations, with MeetingMakers.com. She has been associated with Hyatt Hotels throughout her career, including the Hyatt Regency San Francisco, the Hyatt at Oakland International, and the Hyatt on Union Square.

In coastal north San Diego, Larry Kaufman has been named director of sales and marketing at La Costa Resort and Spa. He was most recently director of sales and marketing for Starwood Hotels & Resorts, overseeing seven properties.

Jim Samuels has been named vice president of sales and marketing for The Balboa Bay Club Resort & Spa, opening in spring 2003 in Newport Beach, Calif. Samuels comes from The Mansion on Turtle Creek in Dallas, where he was hotel manager.

In Sydney, Australia, Nicola Cunich has been appointed director of sales at the Sydney Convention and Visitors Bureau. Cunich was most recently with the Four Points by Sheraton Sydney, where she handled the hotel's corporate meeting accounts.

Destination management company Global Events Partners launched GEP Philadelphia earlier this year. Michael Lyons will act as president and CEO. Lyons brings 28 years of industry experience with him, including executive positions with McGettigan Partners, Carlson Wagonlit Travel, EGR International, and Rosenbluth Travel.

At The Resort at Callaway, Pine Mountain, Ga., Eric Opron has been appointed director of sales, overseeing a staff of eight. The Southern Pine at Callaway, a new conference center, will open in the fall. Opron has been with Opryland Hotel for the past 14 years in the conference services and sales departments.

Renaissance Hotels Florida has named Randy Griffin, former director of marketing for the Eden Roc Renaissance Resort & Spa, as its new area director of marketing. In this role, Griffin will be responsible the sales teams of the Renaissance Orlando Resort at SeaWorld, Orlando; Renaissance Vinoy Resort & Golf Club, St. Petersburg; Eden Roc Renaissance Resort & Spa, Miami Beach; and Renaissance Miami-Biscayne Bay, Miami.
