Newport Beach, Calif., the town renowned for yachts and mansions, is about to see its first full-service resort hotel overlooking the Pacific with the opening of the Balboa Bay Club and Resort, projected for January 2003. The 159-room property will sit on the site of the historic Balboa Bay Club, and will offer a 7,500-square-foot ballroom to accommodate 550 people, banquet-style. The new Kalia Tower at Honolulu's Hilton Hawaiian Village opened this spring. The $95 million, 25-story tower dedicates two levels totaling 42,000 square feet to spa and health facilities. Most unusual is the tower's Bishop Museum at Kalia — an interactive center dedicated to the culture of Hawaii. The Kalia Executive Conference Center, on the second floor, has meeting rooms equipped with high-speed Internet lines, and video and teleconferencing facilities. Hilton Hawaiian Village now offers nearly 175,000 square feet of function space, as well as almost 3,000 guest rooms.
The Hyatt Regency San Diego, located on San Diego Bay, has begun construction on a 33-story, 750-room tower, expected to be completed in summer 2003. It will include an additional 86,000 square feet of meeting space. To be known as the Manchester Grand Hyatt, the finished property will offer more than 120,000 square feet of meeting space and 1,625 sleeping rooms, including 90 suites. The expanded Hyatt will complement the newly expanded San Diego Convention Center.
Hyatt Regency Cleveland at the Arcade opened in May inside the 111-year-old Arcade building. The marble exterior, interior mosaic tiled walkways, and brass and gilded railings have been restored, as was the grand arcade glass skylight that spans 360 feet. The hotel offers 293 rooms, many with high ceilings and distinctive room design. The hotel offers four boardrooms and five meeting rooms totaling 12,000 square feet of function space. www.hyatt.com
