It's not a trend anymore; it's an established fact. Women are playing golf for its business and networking benefits, realizing what their male colleagues have long known--that spending four hours on the golf course is an unparalleled way to build and maintain a business relationship.

So it's not surprising that where there once was one women's networking group to combine the social sport of golf with the people profession of meeting planning, now there are three. The newest entrant is the Corporate Ladies Golf Organization. Founded by former VALIC meeting planner Vicky Van der Naillen, CMP, and Ted Galloway, CLGO began its membership drive in May. At press time, 90 golfers had committed to joining.

"I think women are getting out there more. They're doing deals on the golf course," says Van der Naillen, who believes her group will be distinguished by its emphasis on advanced meeting planning education in addition to golf. "We sent a survey to 2,000 people and the response was tremendous," she says. "They really want more than sun and golf. They want to further their careers."
