On the Map: STR Global Tracking 12 New Destinations

Here’s one way to know you’ve really arrived as a destination: STR Global starts reporting on you.

The global research organization, based in London, announced March 8 that it has begun reporting on 12 new destinations. Locations are added when the number of hotels sharing data with STR Global grows to the point where data representative of that destination can be reported.

In addition, because of tremendous growth, reports on Dubai, U.A.E., and on Beijing and Shanghai, China, will now be separated into submarkets within each of those destinations.

“We are delighted that the increase in our sample size, which now tops 39,000 hotels worldwide, has allowed us to report on a number of much-anticipated destinations,” said Elizabeth Randall, managing director of STR Global, in a press release.

Following is the list of new sites:

Europe
Channel Islands: Jersey
Portugal: Porto
Poland: Wroclaw and Gdansk/Gdynia/Sopot (known as the Tricity)
Spain: Granada City in Andalusia, Spain, and Tenerife, the largest of Spain’s Canary Islands
Italy: Bergamo and Udine, each in the far north of the country; and Palermo, Taormina, and Messina, all on the island of Sicily

Asia/Pacific
Australia: New South Wales Central Coast, just north of Sydney
