Financial Services Society Gives Back

The Risk Insurance Management Society donated $10,000 to a local school serving disadvantaged children during its recent annual meeting in San Diego.

RIMS, a not-for-profit organization dedicated to advancing the practice of risk management, made the donation on behalf of the 400 guest speakers who were featured at the convention, which was held at the San Diego Convention Center April 27 to May 1 for more than 10,000 attendees. The donation went to the Monarch School, which provides accredited educational programs in a stable environment to homeless and at-risk youth in the San Diego area.

RIMS made the $10,000 cash donation through the San Diego Convention Center’s Donations Program. The organization also donated leftover event materials from the annual meeting, including backpacks, automotive supplies, and carpeting.

In addition, the RIMS meeting attendees took advantage of a convention center program facilitating volunteer work in local community improvement projects. During the convention. volunteers worked with Volunteer San Diego to help renovate the King Chavez Academy Charter School. About 200 participants spent a day at the school building benches, planting trees, painting murals, and building a Zen-like children’s garden. The community service day was supported by the AON Corp., a global risk management provider.

“The generous donations of time and money by RIMS, their attendees, and their exhibitors are deeply appreciated by the San Diego community, said Carol Wallace, president and CEO of the San Diego Convention Center, in a statement. “I am always touched by how willing our clients are to give back to their host community.”
