ICCA Identifies Top Convention Cities
Wondering which city international associations use most for their conventions? Think Vienna. That's the word from the International Congress & Convention Association, which each year publishes a ranking of the most popular destinations for international association meetings. To be included in the survey, a meeting must take place on a regular basis and rotate among a minimum of three countries. For the 2007 list, ICCA's researchers analyzed 5,838 events put on by 227 ICCA members in 2006.
Paris was the second most popular city, followed by Singapore, Barcelona, and Berlin. Two Eastern European cities also made the list—Budapest (sixth) and Prague (eighth).
According to ICCA, the most popular country for conventions is the United States, followed by Germany. Both have held those positions since 2004. For the first time, a Latin American country placed in the top 10: Brazil, in seventh place.
