Eco-Pampering/Spa Treatments Spoil People, Not the Earth

Looking for a spa venue that offers luxury but still meets attendees' growing demand for eco-friendly options? Look no further than The Ritz-Carlton Spa, Naples, Fla. The spa, part of The Ritz-Carlton, Naples, has a new menu of organic, earth-friendly treatments.

The 51,000-square-foot spa has developed Elements, a Chinese astrology-based treatment; and the Eco-Luxe Facial and Eco-Luxe Cocoon.

The Elements treatment is customized using an ancient astrological calendar to identify the element that forms one's character and destiny. Once a client's element is determined, a balancing treatment is created.

“Elements such as wood, metal, water, fire, or earth are assigned to each guest,” says Michelle Kelthy, spa director. “The muds, seaweeds, clays, and sea salts used are the purest available.”

Each treatment begins with a colorful, fragrant bath. A clay mask is placed on the face as the body is brushed with an essential oil blend. Next, the body is massaged using techniques such as bamboo, deep tissue, Thai, or hot stones. Each treatment includes a scalp massage.

The Eco-Luxe Facial and Eco-Luxe Cocoon use organic, fragrance-free, nontoxic products, many of which are vegan, biodegradable, and chemical-free. The facial uses an extended cranial hold to induce a deep state of rest that strengthens the immune system. The cocoon is a calcium-rich treatment for sensitive skin.

The new treatments are experienced in the Eco-Room, where all soft materials are made from organic cotton or bamboo and washed in a separate machine using fragrance-free and sulfate-free cleansers.

The resort's redesigned interior features 32-inch LCD flat-panel televisions and high-speed, wireless Internet access in its 450 guest rooms and 35 suites.

The property has 42,000 square feet of meeting space, including a 10,194-square-foot ballroom; 20 meeting rooms; and The Pavilion, a 10,125 square foot conference center.

Three miles away, accessible by hotel shuttle, is the resort's sister property, the 295-room Ritz-Carlton Golf Resort, home to the PGA Tour Merrill Lynch Shootout.

News Makers:

  • Concorde Hotels and Resorts has appointed Lucy Augustin director of group sales for the U.S. meeting and incentive market. Augustin comes to this position from Leading Hotels of the World, where she worked for 19 years.

  • The San Jose CVB has hired Lisa Volpi as a national sales manager. Volpi will be responsible for booking corporate business from the Midwest, Northeast, and Southwest.

Bring the Spa to Your Room

Westin Hotels & Resorts in September announced what it is calling the industry's first global in-room spa program. The experience includes a luxurious, portable spa bed and a special spa basket.

The in-room spa bed was inspired by the Westin Heavenly Bed. The spa bed is 31 inches wide — larger than typical portable massage tables — and is outfitted with heated padding topped by plush double fleecing and Heavenly Bed linens.

Before the massage, staff deliver a basket with water, a flower, a CD with customized relaxation music, a healthful treat such as dark chocolate, and a letter explaining what to expect. The program was designed for those with limited time, as well as those who prefer the privacy of an in-room treatment.

Westin's in-room spa experience is available at 64 properties and continues to be rolled out worldwide.
