Don CeSar Beach Resort
St. Pete Beach, Fla.
The News: Spa Oceana at the Don CeSar Beach Resort opens this month.
Specs: The 11,000-square-foot spa has 16 treatment rooms, as well as a rooftop garden overlooking the Gulf of Mexico. The resort offers 277 rooms and 38,305 square feet of meeting space, including two ballrooms and six boardrooms.
Extra: Before every treatment at Spa Oceana, guests will be served herbal elixirs and treated to a foot bath infused with orange blossoms.
Gaylord National Resort & Convention Center
National Harbor, Md.
The News: Gaylord's newest resort and convention opens April 25.
Specs: 20,000-square-foot Relâche Spa & Fitness Center with 12 treatments rooms, massage rooms, and a health club; 2,000 guest rooms; more than 470,000 square feet of convention and exhibit space; seven dining options.
Hyatt Regency Mission Bay Spa and Marina
San Diego
The News: The facility has completed a $65 million renovation and features Hyatt Corp.'s first luxury eco-spa, Blue Marble.
Specs: 11 treatment rooms, sources from green companies, uses only recycled paper and eco-friendly cleaning products, uses organic and natural skin care products, offers organic fruits and food options, uses minimal hot water. The Hyatt has 430 guest accommodations, including 140 suites, and 30,000 square feet of indoor and outdoor meeting space.
Timeline: Spa debuted February 15.
Extra: The spa is named for “The Blue Marble,” the famous image of the Earth taken from outer space during the Apollo 17 mission.
Spa at the Hilton Daytona Beach Oceanfront Resort
Daytona Beach, Fla.
The News: The new spa opened in May 2007.
Specs: Three treatment rooms, one manicure/pedicure room with hydrotherapy tub. The resort has 744 guest rooms and 60,000 square feet of indoor and outdoor meeting space, including an 18,000-square-foot ballroom and an 8,667-square-foot ballroom.
Extra: Treatments include a caviar and pearl facial. The resort is across from the Ocean Center Convention Center, which will offer more than 450,000 square feet when an expansion is complete in summer 2008.
Half Moon
Montego Bay, Jamaica
The News: The 68,000-square-foot Fern Tree Spa has opened as part of a five-year, multimillion-dollar refurbishment.
Specs: The spa has nine treatment rooms and six beachfront spa suites that allow for in-room treatments and workouts. Half Moon offers 419 guest rooms and more than 26,000 square feet of meeting space, including a 12,000-square-foot ballroom and 4,600-square-foot conference center. The Robert Trent Jones Sr.-designed golf course was recently renovated.
Extra: Customized therapeutic rituals and treatments use indigenous ingredients.
Bear Creek Mountain Resort
Macungie, Pa.
The News: The resort's 80,000-square-foot addition, with spa, was complete in December.
Specs: The addition added 65 guest rooms, for a total of 117. The resort has about 26,000 square feet of meeting space in 10 rooms, and two new executive board rooms. The new 6,000-square-foot Spa at Bear Creek Mountain Resort has four massage rooms, a manicure/pedicure area, a full-service salon, and a steam room.
Teton Springs Lodge & Spa
Victor, Idaho
The News: Phase one of the Teton Springs Lodge and Stillwaters Spa opened in December.
Specs: The lodge offers 52 rooms and suites. Phase one includes 2,000 square feet of meeting space and a 5,000-square-foot spa. Later this year, phase two will add 55 rooms and a restaurant, convert meeting space into a retail complex, and debut the Headwaters Club and Conference Center, with 3,000 square feet of meeting space.
Marriott Bay Point Resort
Panama City Beach, Fla.
The News: The latest addition to the resort is the 12,025-square-foot Serenity at Bay Point spa, salon, and fitness center.
Specs: The spa has 11 treatment rooms, manicure and pedicure stations, and a fitness center. The resort has 320 guest accommodations and 40,000 square feet of event and meeting space.
The Landings St. Lucia
Rodney Bay, St. Lucia
The News: The Landings St. Lucia, a RockResort, opened in December featuring the RockResorts Spa.
Specs: The beachfront resort has 231 suites, a 7,000-square-foot spa, 80 yacht moorings, and amenities including in-room personal chef service. The spa has eight treatment rooms, a fitness center, and salon.
Timeline: Now open, phase one includes 62 guest suites, the spa, salon, fitness center, pool, private yacht harbor, and a restaurant. Phases two, three, and four, with additional suites, pools, and restaurants, will be completed in 2008, 2009, and 2010.
Extra: Treatments incorporate indigenous island ingredients such as vanilla, bay leaf, ginger, and cinnamon.
Spa Within a Spa
The spa at Desert Springs JW Marriott Resort & Spa in Palm Desert, Calif., the largest spa in Southern California at 38,000 square feet, offers a new twist: a “spa within a spa.” The Spa Sanctuary, a 600-square-foot private suite, is staffed by a personal butler and can be reserved by groups of up to 10 people. It offers its own entrance, a lounge with fireplace and high-definition television, treatment rooms, and shower areas. The spa also features Turkish-inspired hammams (special steam rooms) in the men's and women's wet areas, in addition to standard steam rooms and saunas. The hammams are meant to be enjoyed as a communal experience.
Facilities include a heated outdoor lap pool, cardio and strength-training equipment, a yoga studio, and personalized fitness and nutritional counseling. The Spa Bistro offers organic foods, healthful smoothies, and free-range meats and poultry.
Spa Desert Springs is part of a $35 million, yearlong renovation that previously introduced a refurbished lobby with a new lobby bar and sushi bar.
Desert Springs has 884 guest accommodations and 210,000 square feet of indoor and outdoor meeting space.
