The Green Meeting Industry Council, a 500-member organization dedicated to promoting environmentally responsible meetings and events, has announced its 2014–2015 global Board of Directors, with Connie Bergeron, CMP, president of Site Selection Solutions, taking the reins as president from Michael Luehrs, general manager of the Hampton Inn & Suites Madison Downtown in Madison, Wisc..
Three newcomers are joining the GMIC board this year: Betsy Bair, content director, MeetingsNet; Kate Hurst, director, Greenbuild Conference & Events, at U.S. Green Building Council; and Babs Nijdam, business development manager at Amsterdam RAI. Each will serve a two-year term.
They will serve with fellow directors Jeff Chase, vice president, sustainability, Freeman Inc.; Brian Hunt, account executive, Maritz Travel Co.; and Denise Taschereau, CEO and co-founder at Fairware. Board officers this year include Bergeron; President-Elect Roger Simons, CMP, group sustainability manager, MCI Group; Secretary Lindsay Arell, LEED AP O+M, strategist and founder of Arell Logic; and Treasurer Allen Weidman, principal at Next Generation Association Services.
“GMIC's focus for the year ahead will be to develop a strategic vision that builds on the foundation put in place by prior leadership and bring our members together to share best practices, participate in learning experiences, and connect locally,” says Bergeron. “GMIC is a great resource for collaboration and inspiration, both at the grass roots and the global levels of thought leadership.”
