Association of Corporate Travel Executives Reduces Carbon Emissions
The Association of Corporate Travel Executives is leading the way in reducing carbon emissions among travel industry associations. It is partnering with British Airways to offset emissions from its two 2007 conferences, in Miami and Munich.
British Airways, which was named one of the Global 100 Most Sustainable Companies at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, earlier this year, sponsored an offset that will achieve an equivalent reduction in carbon dioxide emissions by replacing fossil fuels with renewable biofuels in the state of Karnataka in India. The biofuels are produced locally, and the project helps village communities to increase self-sufficiency by decreasing their reliance on petroleum products. For more on carbon offsets and ACTE's efforts, see page 32.
