AFTER AN EIGHT-month, $6 million reconstruction, the course at Breakers West, 11 miles west of The Breakers hotel in Palm Beach, Fla., has reopened at The Breakers Rees Jones Course. The new layout, which added four acres of new lakes, has lengthened the course to more than 7,100 yards and has changed it into a par-72. The Breakers' other championship course, the historic Ocean Course, is the oldest in the state of Florida and adjacent to the hotel. www.thebreakers.com
Temecula Creek Inn in Temecula, Calif., recently added 50 new guest rooms with private balconies and patios overlooking the golf course. The multimillion-dollar expansion also added the Yula Ballroom, which seats up to 350 for a banquet. An hour from Los Angeles in the heart of Southern California's wine country, Temecula Creek Inn has 9,000 square feet of meeting space, 130 guest rooms, and 27 holes of championship golf. www.temeculacreekinn.com
Tucson's first new resort in 18 years, the Starr Pass Marriott Resort & Spa, opened in December. Along with 575 guest rooms and suites, 88,000 square feet of meeting space, seven restaurants, and a full-service spa with 23 treatment rooms, the resort has a 27-hole Arnold Palmer Signature Golf facility. www.starrpassmarriott.com
The Omni Tucson National Golf Resort & Spa, has begun construction on a new desert course to complement its traditional parkland Orange/Gold championship course. The course will be created by adding nine holes to the existing nine-hole Green course. Construction should be completed by November 2005. www.tucsonnational.com
Lake Las Vegas Resort, a 3,592-acre residential, golf, and resort community in Henderson, Nev., will build a Loews hotel, the first Loews property in Nevada. Loews Lake Las Vegas Resort will have about 400 rooms and suites, 40,000 square feet of meeting space, and a 20,000-square-foot spa. The hotel will be located near Reflection Bay Golf Club, one of the resort's two signature Jack Nicklaus golf courses. The grand opening is slated for 2008. www.lakelasvegas.com
Renaissance Ross Bridge Resort and Spa on the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail will open this summer in the Birmingham, Ala., suburb of Hoover. The resort will have 258 guest rooms, 20,000 square feet of indoor and outdoor function space, and a 12,000-square-foot spa. The 18-hole, 8,100-yard golf course has a club house and pro shop inside the hotel. www.rossbridgeresort.com
The Golf Academy at Springhouse Links opened in May at Gaylord Opryland in Nashville, Tenn. The Scottish links — style, par-72 course, designed by former U.S. Open and PGA champion Larry Nelson, offers 18 holes bordered by limestone bluffs and federally protected wetlands. The fourth hole features the century-old springhouse that gives the club its name. This summer, a 27,000-square-foot Relâche spa will open. www.gaylordhotels.com
At Sandestin Golf and Beach Resort on Florida's Emerald Coast, four championship courses are available to guests: the 6,900-yard, par-71 Raven Golf Club, a Robert Trent Jones Jr. course; Burnt Pine Golf Club, by architect Rees Jones, with a 7,000-yard layout; The Baytowne Golf Club, with views of both Choctawhatchee Bay and the Gulf of Mexico; and The Links Course, designed by Tom Jackson. www.sandestin.com
At Bay Point Marriott Resort & Spa in Panama City, Fla., a multimillion-dollar makeover will include a new Nicklaus Design course with a signature island lagoon hole (No. 5) and new water features. Scheduled to open in fall 2005, it will replace the former Lagoon Legends course. The makeover also includes remodeling of guest rooms, suites, and golf villas. www.marriottbaypoint.com
The 146-unit Villas of Grand Cypress Golf Resort offers a 14,000-square-foot conference center, 45 holes of Jack Nicklaus — designed golf, a golf academy, and an equestrian center. www.grandcypress.com
When The Hampton Club at Hampton Plantation opened in 1990 at The King and Prince Beach & Golf Resort on St. Simons Island, Ga., it was acclaimed as one of the nation's top 10 new resort courses. It features four signature holes on small marsh islands off the mainland, accessed by cart bridges. The club is 13 miles from the King and Prince, a member of Historic Hotels of America. www.kingandprince.com
Twist your tongue around this one: Llandudno. It's the Victorian town in Wales where the North Wales Conference Centre has recently doubled in size. In the foothills of Mount Snowdon (just an hour from Manchester and Liverpool international airports), the center now can accommodate 5,000, with Wi-Fi connectivity throughout. And for a great post-meeting golf excursion: Royal St. David's in Harlech is only a short journey to the west coast through Snowdonia National Park. It recently made Golf Digest's list of the top 100 international courses.
