Shangri-La Hotels & Resorts joined the spa-branding frenzy last year with the introduction of CHI spas, with the first one recently opening in Bangkok. There are plans for 10 more CHI spas in the next few years. The essence of the brand comes from the traditional Chinese philosophy of “chi” — the universal life force that governs personal energy and vitality. CHI spas will be designed to create a sense of sanctuary and tranquility, and spa offerings will follow many of the traditions of China and the Himalayas.
