Mmmm. Sweet! THE SPA AT HOTEL HERSHEY is in the midst of a major renovation and expansion that will nearly double its size and capacity. Already a leader in chocolate-based treatments, the new spa will also specialize in treatments with a Cuban theme. With a planned opening of November 1, the spa will expand from 17,000 square feet to 30,000 square feet. It will feature a new lounge and restaurant specifically for spa guests, as well as 23 new treatment rooms (for a total of 53).

Destination Hotels & Resorts opened ESTANCIA LA JOLLA HOTEL & SPA this summer on a 9.5-acre former equestrian estate north of San Diego. The resort has 210 guest rooms and 11 suites, four restaurants and bars, 25,000 square feet of indoor and outdoor meeting and event space (certified by the International Association of Conference Centers), and an 8,000- square-foot spa. The Learning Retreat has a 125-seat amphitheater and a 6,000-square-foot ballroom. High-speed wireless Internet access is available throughout the property. The Spa at Estancia features 11 treatment rooms, a heated outdoor pool, a fitness center, and private outdoor garden suites for massages.

THE FAIRMONT SONOMA MISSION INN & SPA, in California's Sonoma Valley north of San Francisco, has finished a major renovation that was begun in 1999. The $62 million project restored the entry court and lobby, updated soft goods, and redesigned the resort's 97 rooms. The new spa-like bathrooms feature stone vanities, and high-speed Internet access is in every guest room. Wireless Internet access is available in the lobby and outdoor pool areas. The resort has its own source of thermal mineral water, and offers all guests access to the private, 18-hole Sonoma Golf Club.

Along Florida's Atlantic coast between Jacksonville and St. Augustine, the SAWGRASS MARRIOTT RESORT & BEACH CLUB will open its 20,000-square-foot SPA AT SAWGRASS in December. The Ponte Vedra Beach facility will offer 19 treatment rooms as well as a Zen garden between the men's and women's lounges. Private cabanas surround a lap pool and juice bar. The resort recently added meeting space, including the 16,000-square-foot Champions Ballroom.

A December 15 grand opening is planned for Tucson's first new resort in 18 years, the STARR PASS MARRIOTT RESORT & SPA. Along with 575 guest rooms and suites, seven dining options, a 27-hole Arnold Palmer Signature Golf facility, and 88,000 square feet of meeting space, the resort will have a full-service spa with 23 treatment rooms.

Attendees can soothe their tired bodies after a day on San Antonio's River Walk at the city's first downtown spa. Located on the banks of the River Walk, the WATERMARK HOTEL & SPA opened with 99 guest rooms last December. The 16,900-square-foot spa features 19 private treatment rooms and offers classes such as Kundalini yoga.

The 15,000-square-foot oceanview SPA MARQUIS at MARQUIS LOS CABOS BEACH, GOLF, SPA AND CASITAS RESORT in Mexico features 10 treatment rooms, open-air Jacuzzis, and steam baths. Cactus oils, agave, sea salt, and seaweed from the Sea of Cortez are incorporated into the spa's face and body treatments, and the fitness center offers yoga, tai chi, aerobics, and meditation classes.

Seven miles from D/FW International Airport, the FOUR SEASONS RESORT AND CLUB IN LAS COLINAS, Irving, Texas, has renovated its spa. The 12,000-square-foot spa now features an 18-foot-wide, 8 — foot-tall water cascade where guests can relax while waiting for treatments. A dedicated Vichy shower room and a couples massage room were also added in the project, and spa dining areas have been enlarged and relocated for more privacy.

Guests can bask in the sun in the heart of the Riviera Maya at the 1,266-room AVENTURA SPA PALACE, an adults-only resort. Featuring white-sand beaches and turquoise Caribbean waters, Aventura is set on 85 acres of tropical forest. Along with massages, skin treatments, and hydrotherapy, the spa keeps attendees active with its classes in kickboxing and weight training, yoga, and tai chi (among others). For business functions, the Harmony Convention Center opened in spring 2003. Its 55,000 square feet of flexible function space can accommodate up to 1,400 people.

After closure from storm damage last season, the 593-room FAIRMONT SOUTHAMPTON reopened in Bermuda in mid-April. The resort offers more than 30,000 square feet of meeting space, and it features a new 23,000-square-foot Willow Stream spa with three spa lounges, one each for men, women, and couples.
