Tourism Toronto's MacMillan New MPI Chief

Taking On New Territories
When done properly, international CME and other medical education activities can help share knowledge, foster cross-cultural understanding, and improve the care of patients around the world. But those of us who have attempted international medical meetings are only too familiar with the flip side of this romantic picture. Language barriers, cultural misunderstandings, differences in logistical expectations, and the frustration of trying to get your things through customs can all add up to a major challenge. Organizations that want to expand into new territories should be prepared with a lot of patience, an open mind, and a very good translator.
New, Expanded, Renovated
At the Top of the Kahler Grand Hotel in Rochester, Minn., the new International Hotel opened in April. This hotel within a hotel offers 19 upscale rooms and suites, with a dedicated, round-the-clock concierge. The Kahler Grand is the closest property to the Mayo Clinic and is connected via subway and skywalk to it. The Kahler has 14 meeting rooms with more than 25,000 square feet of meeting space, including the newly renovated Heritage Hall, with 7,150 square feet, divisible into three sections. An additional 100,000 square feet of meeting space is available at the adjoining Mayo Civic Center.
