Parsippany, N.J. — based Health Learning Systems, CommonHealth's medical-education company, has appointed David M. Kutzner to the position of vice president, professional relations. Kutzner joins Health Learning Systems from Pharmacia Oncology, a unit of Pharmacia Corp., Peapack, N.J., where he held the position of senior marketing communications manager, oncology.

HEALTH CARE

Instead of retiring last month as he had planned, Henry B. Slotnick, PhD, PhD, has accepted the position of visiting professor, department of internal medicine, University of Wisconsin Medical School in Madison, where he will set up a research program in physician learning with the university's CME office. A longtime expert in CME and adult learning, Slotnick had most recently served as professor of neuroscience, University of North Dakota in Grand Forks. He will continue to write MM's adult learning column.

CONVENTION CENTERS AND BUREAUS

Marcus A. Cade Sr. has been named national sales manager for the Atlantic City (N.J.) Convention & Visitors Authority. Cade's territory will include New England, New York, New Jersey, and eastern Pennsylvania. Cade was hired as Meeting Express sales manager for the Authority in 1999.

Maria Rivera has been appointed national sales manager for the Washington, D.C., area and the Northeast at the Long Beach Area Convention and Visitors Bureau in Long Beach, Calif. Prior to joining the bureau, Rivera represented the Hawaii Visitor and Convention Bureau as regional director of accounts in Washington, D.C.

At the Scottsdale Convention and Visitors Bureau, Joe Heinl has been promoted to convention sales manager. He will be responsible for the West Coast corporate and incentive markets. Heinl has served as a convention sales representative at the CVB since 1998.

HOTELS, RESORTS, CONFERENCE CENTERS

Richard Keating has been named vice president, marketing, for Millennium Hotels and Resorts' two New York hotels, the Millennium Broadway and the Regal U.N. Plaza. He most recently was director of sales and marketing at the Essex House, New York. Millennium is also establishing a new Northern California sales office, which will be headed by Darla Lane. As director for the San Francisco office, her responsibilities will include corporate sales, and meetings and conventions in the Silicon Valley and the rest of northern California. Lane had been area sales director for Forte and Le Meridien Hotels & Resorts.

Benchmark Hospitality has appointed Tory Parks to director of sales and marketing for Del Lago Resort on Lake Conroe near Houston. Since 1993, Parks had been director of sales for Del Lago, a position in which she led a team of nine sales staff.

Kim Greca has been promoted to director of sales at the Walt Disney World Swan Hotel and Walt Disney World Dolphin Hotel in Lake Buena Vista, Fla. Also at the resorts, Vera Spoto has been appointed associate director of sales. She comes from Walt Disney World and will fill the position left vacant by Greca's promotion.

At the Sheraton Chicago Hotel & Towers in downtown Chicago, Anne Tigges has been appointed associate director of group sales. Her primary responsibility will be to oversee the corporate and association markets on the West Coast. Before joining Sheraton Chicago, Tigges was senior sales manager for the Hilton Chicago.

Karen Sullivan has been named associate director of sales at the Hyatt Regency San Diego. Sullivan has worked as area director of sales and marketing in Las Vegas for Marriott Hotels, Resorts, and Suites.

Michelle Caporicci has been named director of conference services, and Ripley Vaughn has been appointed national sales manager, at the Ritz-Carlton, Laguna Niguel in Dana Point, Calif. Caporicci will oversee a staff of 13. She has worked in the conference services department at Ritz-Carlton since 1998. Vaughn will represent the hotel to clients in the western region, including Los Angeles. Since 1998, he has served as sales manager at La Costa Resort in Carlsbad, Calif.

MEETING SERVICES

Josephine Kling, CEO of Landry & Kling Inc., specialists in meetings at sea, has resigned from the company that she and her partner Joyce Landry founded in 1982. Landry, formerly president, assumed the newly created title of president and CEO effective January 31, 2001.

Gary White has been promoted to executive vice president of HelmsBriscoe. White joined the company in 1998 from Hilton Hotels Corp., where he was director of national sales. HelmsBriscoe, headquartered in Scottsdale, Ariz., is a full-service meeting management firm.
