CONSORTIUM GETS HIP TO HIPPA
The 87 academic health centers that comprise the University HealthSystem Consortium recently signed on with HealthStream (www.healthstream.com) to learn what they need to do to be compliant with the Healthcare Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996.
All heathcare organizations are mandated by federal law to train their employees in the legislation's numerous specifications and requirements by HIPPA's April 2003 deadline.
The HIPPA curriculum includes an online learning program and additional training services, including Centers for Healthcare Management Excellence and HealthStream's Leadership Practices Survey. Prior to the UHC agreement, the company already had 11 university health systems on board. “We expect this curriculum will make it easier for our members to comply with HIPPA,” says Debra Bragg, vice president for human resources with UHC.
