Female-Friendly Adult Ed
Some organizations, including the Philadelphia-based American Association for Cancer Research, provide education specific to women's professional development during their annual meetings (see page 24 for MM's gender survey results). But AACR takes it one step further; in 1999 it established the Women in Cancer Research Council to foster the professional development and achievement of women in cancer research by creating programs and services within the parent organization to advance the careers of women in the field. Both the WICR and AACR's women-in-cancer-research events are open to male and female participants. (AACR also has a Minorities in Cancer Research Council to help advance the professional careers of its minority scientists.)
Does your organization provide special programming, sessions, or events with its female members' needs in mind? If so, please let us know about it: Call Executive Editor Sue Pelletier at (978) 448-0377, or e-mail her at spelletier@primediabusiness.com.
