Paul Pomerantz has begun his tenure as executive director for the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, based in Arlington Heights, Ill. Most recently, Pomerantz was executive director for the Society of Interventional Radiology, based in Fairfax, Va.
Kraig Johnson has joined the Annenberg Center for Health Sciences at Eisenhower Medical Center in Rancho Mirage, Calif., as director of continuing medical education. Kraig had been director of programs for JRDaggett & Associates, a meeting planning and exhibition consulting firm headquartered in Chicago.
CONVENTION AND VISITORS BUREAUS
At the Baton Rouge (La.) Convention and Visitors Bureau, Paul Arrigo has been appointed president and CEO. Arrigo had been the bureau's vice president of sales and marketing.
Kathy Hogan has joined the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando as a senior account executive, focusing primarily on Texas and the Northeast. Before joining the convention center staff, Hogan had been assistant director of sales with Sheraton World Resort.
Jill Schvaneveldt has been promoted to senior sales manager at Palm Springs Desert Resorts Convention and Visitors Authority in Rancho Mirage, Calif. Schvaneveldt will oversee sales efforts in the Midwest and Canada.
HOTELS, RESORTS, AND CONFERENCE CENTERS
Rick Duda has been appointed director of sales and marketing at Inter-Continental Hotels Cleveland, which manages and operates three facilities on the Cleveland Clinic campus. Duda was most recently director of sales and marketing at the Ritz-Carlton, Cleveland.
Carol Maldonado has been appointed national sales manager at Boca Raton (Fla.) Resort & Club. She joins the resort from Wyndham Bel Age in West Hollywood, Calif., where she was sales manager.
Janine Cicchino has been named director of sales at The Claridge Hotel in Chicago. Cicchino most recently served as director of sales for the Ambassador West, also in Chicago.
At The Broadmoor in Colorado Springs, Colo., Michael J. Dimond has rejoined the sales team, after a 10-year absence, as senior vice president of marketing. Most recently, Dimond operated his own company, Dimond Marketing Group.
At Kiawah Island Resorts, Kiawah Island, S.C., Michael Sonka has been named director of incentive sales, focusing on the Midwest and West Coast. Sonka had been with the Resort at Squaw Creek in Lake Tahoe, Calif., where he was senior sales manager.
MEETING SERVICES
Meeting Professionals International, Dallas, has appointed Michael W. Tucker as chief operating officer. Tucker most recently served as managing partner and owner of MTA Partners, Plano, Texas, an executive search firm for the health care industry.
Marci Tau has formed Tau Communications Partners Inc., a marketing communications company based in the Research Triangle Park area of North Carolina. The company will focus on the pharmaceutical and biotech industries. Tau previously served as a management supervisor at Medical Education Group, a continuing education provider in Trevose, Pa.
New York-based brand marketing agency Jack Morton Worldwide has hired Dow Summey as pharmaceutical learning strategist. Summey is a veteran of Merck and Co.'s U.S. Human Health division.
At M/C Communications LLC, the Boston-based producer of medical conferences, Stever Aubrey has been named president and chief operating officer. M/C Communications will produce 39 CME events this year under the company's Pri-Med aegis. Aubrey had been with the advertising agency of Hill, Holliday, Connors, Cosmopoulos since 1992, where he was executive vice president and general manager.
At the newly formed Nexus Communications Inc., Michael A. Caso is president and Karen M. Overstreet is executive vice president, operations. Caso has worked for more than 20 years in the pharmaceutical industry, in both sales and professional education. He was previously president of sales, Diagnosis Healthcare Communications, Horsham, Pa. Overstreet has worked in medical education for more than 11 years and is on the board of directors and a fellow of the Alliance for Continuing Medical Education. She was formerly vice president, Thompson Physicians World, in the Philadelphia area. Nexus is a full-service medical education and communication company based in North Wales, Pa., a suburb of Philadelphia.
