Health Learning Systems (HLS), Parsippany, N.J., the founding medical-education unit of Common-Health (www.commonhealth.com), has promoted Gregg Machak, an employee of CommonHealth since 1988, from senior director, creative services to vice president, creative services. Maria Pollaro has been promoted to senior meetings manager from meetings manager. Deborah Bennett has joined HLS as vice president, director of program and direction, a position she has been holding on a freelance basis for the past five years. Elizabeth Scott has been hired at HLS as a senior director, program planning and development. She was previously with Integrated Communications Corp. in Parsippany, N.J.

Richard F. Tischler Jr., PhD, has changed his company's name to Viator Medical Communications Inc., and has expanded its services. Based in Mt. Airy, Md., Viator (www.viator-med.com) now assists CME providers not only with administration, accreditation, and regulatory compliance, but also helps them improve their CME programs. Services include developing needs assesments, educational objectives, evaluations, and strategies for measuring ROI.

CONVENTION AND VISITORS BUREAUS

Sally Forrest has been promoted to director of marketing, convention sales and services at the San Antonio (Texas) Convention and Visitors Bureau. She succeeds Alicia Vargas, who retired in January. Forrest is a 13-year veteran of the SACVB. Previously, she was associate director of convention sales. Also at the bureau, John Solis has been promoted to vice president of sales and marketing. His responsibilities will include convention sales.

Colleen Carducci has joined the staff of the Greater Milwaukee Convention and Visitors Bureau as convention sales manager. She will be responsible for the Southeast region, as well as the health, medical, and pharmaceutical markets. Before joining the bureau, Carducci worked in commercial and residential real estate.

The Hawai‘i Visitors and Convention Bureau has appointed Joseph Nagle and Meredith Parkins as directors of accounts on the mainland. Nagle, regional director of accounts for the Northeast, will be based in the Boston area. He was most recently national sales manager at the Ritz-Carlton Kapalua in Maui, and was previously on the staff of the American Academy of Medical Preventics. Parkins, regional director of accounts, will be responsible for the division's Washington, D.C.-area office in Arlington, Va. She previously was sales manager at Swissotel Washington (D.C.).

HOTELS AND RESORTS

Rebecca Camden has been appointed sales manager at the Marco Island Marriott Resort & Golf Club in Marco Island, Fla. Before joining Marriott, Camden was in medical technology sales.

Richard A. Brooks has been appointed incentive sales director for the Walt Disney World Resort in Lake Buena Vista, Fla. His sales team will be responsible for all Disney incentive offerings in Florida, including resorts, theme parks, recreation, and Disney Cruise Line. Brooks had been director of sales and marketing for The Westin Santa Clara in California.

Michael O'Connor has been named director of convention services for The Diplomat Resort Country Club & Spa, in Hollywood, Fla. O'Connor was director of conference management for the Wyndham Anatole Hotel in Dallas.

At the Las Vegas Hilton, Kevin Donnelly has been promoted to director of meetings and conventions. Donnelly has worked in the hospitality industry since graduating from the University of Nevada Las Vegas in 1992. He was formerly assistant director of meetings and conventions.

Carol Sullivan has been named director of sales at The Lodge at Torrey Pines, scheduled to open in April 2002 in La Jolla, Calif. Sullivan had been director of sales for Bahia Resort Hotel, San Diego.

Brian Dye has been named director of sales and marketing for the new St. Regis Monarch Beach in Dana Point, Calif. Dye joins the St. Regis from Hawaii, where he was director of sales and marketing with the Hilton Waikoloa Village on the Big Island. Also joining the St. Regis Monarch Beach is Stan Hershenow, director of incentive sales. He was most recently with La Quinta Resort & Club in Palm Springs, Calif.

Jeff Rasco, CMP, has joined the Chicago-based meetings/trade show management firm JRDaggett & Associates as senior vice president. Rasco was most recently senior relationship manager, Applied Theory Corp., Austin, Texas. He was formerly marketing director for faculty educational resources, University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center, Houston.
