Paula J. Rigling, CAE, CMP, has left the Texas Medical Association, where she served as director of conference and meeting management. She has joined AppliedTheory Corp., an event technology firm in Austin, Texas, as senior event manager.


Concurrent with the Reno-Sparks Convention Center expansion project, Jeff Beckelman has been hired as the new president and CEO of the Reno-Sparks Convention and Visitors Authority in Nevada. He had been the vice president of sales and marketing for the Sands Expo & Convention Center in Las Vegas.

Bob Beach, CMP, has been named director of corporate sales at the Chicago Convention and Tourism Bureau, responsible for short-lead corporate meeting business. Beach most recently had been global account director for Starwood Hotels & Resorts.

Brian McCartin has been hired at the Portland Oregon Visitors Association as executive vice president of sales and marketing. McCartin had been general manager of both the Doubletree Hotel Lloyd Center in Portland and Doubletree Portland Downtown.

Jorge Pesquera has been appointed executive director of the Puerto Rico Tourism Company, overseeing all aspects of marketing and development for Puerto Rico worldwide. Prior to this appointment, Pesquera was the executive director of the Puerto Rico Convention Bureau for eight years.


At Pri-Med, Christine Wilson, PhD, has been named senior vice president of clinical affairs. In this new post, she will oversee course content for Pri-Med Updates, a series of intensive two-day medical conferences now held in 12 U.S. cities. She will also handle the development of new specialized continuing medical education symposia. Wilson is a continuing education coordinator for the Massachusetts General Hospital Institute of Health Professions graduate program in nursing. Pri-Med is a unit of Hill Holliday Exhibition Services LLC, based in Boston.


Jeffrey W. Poole has been appointed national sales director at Rosen Hotels & Resorts. He will be based in Washington, D.C., and will be responsible for both association and corporate accounts in the Washington metro area for Orlando's Rosen Centre and Rosen Plaza (both located adjacent to Orlando's convention center), and an as yet unnamed resort property in Orlando. Poole was formerly national director of sales for Omni Hotels.

Wendy Nuckols has been named corporate sales manager at Phoenix's Pointe South Mountain Resort. Nuckols had been corporate sales manager at the Legacy Golf Resort in Phoenix.

Gina Farris has been named director of sales at the TradeWinds Island Grand Resort on St. Pete Beach, Fla., the flagship property of the TradeWinds Beach Resorts & Conference Centers. Farris has been with the property for more than six years and recently served as assistant director of sales. A 15-year sales veteran, Farris is responsible for sales in the Washington, D.C., area.

Peter Garapic has been named corporate sales manager at Opryland Hotel and Attractions, Nashville, Tenn. Garapic most recently was director of sales at the Adam's Mark Hotel in Columbia, S.C.

Kristine Stocker has been appointed sales manager in charge of group sales from west of the Mississippi at the Wyndham Anatole in Dallas. Before joining Wyndham, Stocker was a corporate sales manager at Adam's Mark Hotel in Dallas.

Ric Nicholson has been appointed director of sales and marketing at the Sheraton Seattle Hotel and Towers. Nicholson had been director of sales and marketing at the Hyatt Regency Bellevue (Wash.) before making the move across the lake.

Debbie Hogan was recently promoted to director of sales at the Hilton Waikoloa Village on Hawaii's Big Island. She will oversee all group sales.


Poretta & Orr Inc. has promoted Sharon McNally to global marketing and events manager. McNally, who most recently was senior project manager, plans the Healthcare Convention & Exhibitors Association annual meeting, as well as coordinating projects for international clients. The Doylestown, Pa. firm is an exhibit marketing and event management company specializing in medical meetings. Clients include Centocor Inc., AstraZeneca, and Merck & Co.

Roy B. Evans Jr., CAE, former president and CEO of the Professional Convention Management Association, has joined The Augusta Group, a new consulting organization in the hospitality industry, headquartered in Grapevine, Texas. Evans, an associate with the organization, will continue to be based in Birmingham, Ala.
