• The 404-room Radisson Plaza Myrtle Beach Hotel has broken ground in Myrtle Beach, S.C. The $48 million, 14-story hotel will adjoin the Myrtle Beach Convention Center. The hotel's lobby and second floor lounge will open onto the 249,000-square-foot convention center's pre-function space. The hotel is expected to open in February 2003.

  • In Boston, The Ritz-Carlton, Boston Common opened in September, offering 193 guest rooms and seven meeting rooms totaling 4,000 square feet of function space. All meeting rooms offer broadband Internet access and teleconferencing, and the boardroom features a plasma screen. The Ritz will also have available four of the adjacent Loews Theatres Boston Common's high-technology screening rooms, which can accommodate from 200 to 600 people. In a separate building across the street from the hotel, The Ritz-Carlton, Boston Common also offers 309 luxury condominiums, 62 extended-stay apartments, and a 100,000-square-foot fitness facility.

  • The new 250-room Hotel Monaco New Orleans, which is just steps from the French Quarter, was originally built as a Masonic Hall in 1926. The hotel now offers 6,000 square feet of meeting space, including two ballrooms and three boardrooms, and can accommodate up to 190 people banquet-style.

  • A second new Starwood property recently opened in Dana Point, Calif. The 400-room St. Regis Monarch Beach Resort & Spa is perched on 200 acres overlooking the Pacific Ocean. The resort offers 30,000 square feet of flexible indoor meeting space, plus a 30,000-square-foot spa and an 18-hole championship oceanfront golf course that was designed by Robert Trent Jones Jr. All meeting facilities have teleconferencing capabilities, Internet videoconferencing, and the capability to downlink satellite and broadcast information.

  • An 18-story, 405-room Courtyard by Marriott has opened in downtown San Francisco. Located in the convention district, the new San Francisco Downtown Courtyard is steps from the soon-to-be-expanded Moscone Convention Center. Included in the property's 7,000 square feet of meeting space are two boardrooms, three conference suites, and seven meeting rooms, accommodating up to 250 people.


  • The St. Regis Shanghai, Shanghai, China, recently opened its doors for business. Located conveniently in the heart of Shanghai's business district, the 40-story property features 318 guest rooms, including 48 suites. The hotel also offers nearly 11,000 square feet of meeting space.
