Denver’s First Green Seal–Certified Hotel: Kimpton’s Hotel Monaco Denver

Kimpton’s Hotel Monaco Denver has become the first hotel in Denver and the third in Colorado to attain the Silver Green Seal Certification. Green Seal certification, a third-party validation of the Hotel Monaco’s environmentally responsible practices under Kimpton’s EarthCare program, allows the Hotel Monaco to more effectively measure its environmentally friendly practices.

The Green Seal Environmental Standard for Lodging Properties, GS-33, has represented leadership in the industry since its advent in 1999. The standard focuses on waste minimization, energy conservation and management, management of fresh water resources, waste water management, pollution prevention, and organizational commitments such as environmentally sensitive purchasing. Certification requires an extensive initial evaluation by Green Seal, as well as annual monitoring to ensure ongoing compliance.

Kimpton’s innovative EarthCare initiative dates back to the company’s inception in 1981 and includes several industry firsts, such as in-room recycling bins and the use of nontoxic cleaners brandwide. Kimpton is also a partner of Trust for Public Land and The Nature Conservancy. If each hotel in Kimpton’s portfolio is approved by Green Seal’s certification team, Kimpton would be the first lifestyle boutique hotel company to achieve 100 percent Silver Green Seal certification of all open and established hotels. To date, 40 of Kimpton’s 55 hotels hold Green Seal certification.

The Hotel Monaco offers modern accommodations, complimentary nightly wine hour, themed suites, and the Panzano restaurant. Located in the heart of downtown Denver, the hotel has 189 rooms and 4,000 square feet of meeting space.
