CEJA Report Sent Back for Fourth Time
The most recent version of the American Medical Association’s Council on Judicial and Ethical Affairs report on Financial Relationships with Industry in Continuing Medical Education has been sent back to committee for retooling. This is the fourth time the AMA’s House of Delegates found the report in need of more work.
According to Thomas Sullivan, president and founder of the medical education company Rockpointe Corp. and author of the the Policy and Medicine blog, three out of the four people who addressed the reference committee opposed the report’s passage.
The floor debate, he writes, included a recognition that current Accreditation Council for CME and Council of Medical Specialty Societies policies already govern industry-CME relationships, and that adding the CEJA report’s recommendations might be “unduly burdensome.“ Testimony also cited “a lack of compelling evidence to support the contention that industry funding of CME leads to bias in continuing medical education.”
