More than 700 entries were received from a wide range of healthcare organizations (both large and small), online health companies, pharmaceutical firms, and business improvement/vendor sites. Organizations had the opportunity to enter under one of 15 classifications so that they could compete against others of comparable type, size, and resources. There were six different Award categories.
The three top award winners in the category of best overall healthcare association/professional society web site are the American Cancer Society, the American Society of Consultant Pharmacists, and the Oncology Nursing Society

Factors considered in the award for best internet site include delivery of strong health content, interactivity, medical care support, integration with the organization's operations, as well as strength of Web design and ease of navigation.
An independent panel of individuals familiar with healthcare and the Internet evaluated entries based on detailed evaluation measures. A total of 56 people were involved in the judging this year. Web sites were rated based on a standard of Internet excellence and how they compared with others in their classification.
