American Hospital Association Cancels Meeting; Gay And Lesbian Medical Association Does Not
The American Hospital Association's (AHA)National Regional Policy Board and Governance meeting, scheduled for October 11 and 12 in Washington, D.C., has been canceled and will be replaced by a series of conference calls on the same dates. The AHA decided to cancel in part because legislators who would otherwise be available to speak at the meeting are expected to be focused instead on national security issues. The AHA was also concerned about attendees' willingness to fly, and the continued closure of Reagan National Airport.
Separately, the Gay and Lesbian Medical Association (GLMA) has announced that it will go ahead with its annual conference, scheduled to take place September 29 to October 1 at the Sheraton New Orleans. Acknowledging the tragedies that occurred in New York City and Washington, D.C., GLMA President William S. Gilmer, MD, said the the work of the GLMA must go on.
"The education we present and the health issues we cover in New Orleans are critical in our lives. And it is important for all of those who are able to be there to come together to reaffirm both our professional goals and our personal friendships."
