ATA's 'Telemed Live' Event Demonstrates Real-Time Remote Medicine

Innovations in remote medical care will be highlighted at the American Telemedicine Association's (ATA) 7th Annual Meeting and Exposition, June 2-5, in Los Angeles, CA.

On Tuesday June 5 from 9:00 am to 10:00 am, ATA will feature "Telemed Live," with over 15 live demonstrations of telemedicine applications by participating companies. The event will feature remote applications of different medical services including cardiology, dermatology, neurology, ophthalmology, and radiology.

Leaders in medicine and technology from over 40 countries will attend the meeting with more than 300 presentations by medical and technology experts from around the world accompanied by an exhibition of telemedicine products and services by over 100 organizations.

The meeting will include addresses from major world and US leaders in medicine including:

LTG Ronald Peake, MD, Surgeon General of the US Army is the principal medical advisor to the Secretary of the Army and Army Chief of Staff. His responsibilities include building and maintaining a world-class casualty care center system and achieving the highest medical readiness standards possible for the Army.

Molly Joel Coye, MD, MPH, Founder & CEO, The Health Technology Center in San Francisco, CA has served in a variety of major posts including Director of the California Department of Health Services. The Health Technology Center, affiliated with the Institute for the Future, is known for advancing the use of technology in health care.

MG Lester Martinez-Lopez, Commanding General, U.S. Army Medical Research and Materiel Command at Fort Detrick, MD is responsible for the military's centers for medical chemical and biological defense as well as telemedicine technology.

His Excellency, Professor A.Q.M.B. Choudhury, President, People's Republic of Bangladesh opens the meeting via videotape with a keynote address Sunday evening. President Choudhury is a renown physician who continues to practice medicine using remote telecommunications.

The meeting is developed in cooperation with the following U.S. Federal Agencies:

United States Army Medical Research & Materiel Command (USAMRMC);
Telemedicine & Advanced Technology Research Center (TATRC);
National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), and
Department of Veterans Affairs Telemedicine Strategic Healthcare Group.

The University of South Florida College of Medicine is a sponsor of the meeting and offering continuing education credits for the attendees.
