Coding Courses Continue Despite Prospect Of Scrutiny

"The National Pediatric and Ob-Gyn Coding and Compliance Conference: 2001" will be held in Naples, Florida on November 30 and December 1, 2001 at the Registry Resort, to be sponsored by The Coding Institute. Coding courses have recently come under scrutiny, with Federal regulators from the General Accounting Office accusing instructors of encouraging fraudlent practices. (See July 6 Daily Capsules item, "Alert: GAO Investigates Coding Courses")

Over 500 pediatric and ob-gyn clinicians, practice managers, coding and billing professionals from across the country are expected to attend the event.

The program will offer practical, nuts-and-bolts information from national coding and compliance experts to optimize coding and compliance. Dual tracks (one specific to pediatrics, the other to ob-gyn) will provide highly-targeted strategies for each specialty's unique reimbursement challenges.

Many national authorities will serve as faculty in the two-day event. Included are pediatricians Albert D. Jacobson, MD, CPA, Charles Scott, MD, FAAP, and Richard H. Tuck, MD, FAAP; and obstetricians Harry Stuber, MD and Philip N. Eskew, Jr. MD, who are all prominent in coding, compliance and management. Other featured experts include, Victoria S. Jackson, Melanie Witt, RN, CPC, MA, Nancy Demarco Lamare, Joseph Batte, CFE and Mary I. Falbo, MBA, CPC.

``Our pediatric and ob-gyn customers want an event that focuses 100% on their own specialty's unique reimbursement challenges - not a general coding conference where very little applies to them,'' said Dr. Norins, Institute President.

Conference tuition begins at $499 per person. Continuing Education Units are offered through the American Academy of Professional Coders.
