Eye Surgery Meeting Showcases Videos
If you’re looking for ideas about handling video presentations at medical conferences, you may want to attend the 2002 Annual Symposium and Congress of the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery (ASCRS) and American Society of Ophthalmic Administrators, to be held June 1-5, 2002 in Philadelphia, Pa.
At this year’s meeting, ASCRS will be holding its 20th annual Film Festival. Over five days, 166 videos of eye surgery will be shown. On Monday evening, June 3, there will be an awards ceremony for the best videos. The event is a major draw at the meeting.
The 2002 meeting will also feature 16 computer courses, ranging from “Internet 101” to “Computerization of Medical Records:The Experiences of Practices That Have Made The Transition Successfully.” Other big draws include 14 skills-transfer courses. These are two-hour sessions at $175 each (above and beyond regular meeting registration fees) where surgeons get hands-on training in new techniques and technologies.
There will be two hours of unopposed exhibit hall showcase time, called “Eye and Buy.” In fact, one of the stated objectives of the meeting, in addition to learning new and sharpening old surgical skills and getting up to date on current research, is to “view and examine state-of-the-art ophthalmic equipment and supplies.”
The American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery designates this continuing medical education program for a maximum of 40 credit hours in Category 1 of the Physician’s Recognition Award of the American Medical Association.
