Journal Introduces "Quality Grand Rounds"
The Annals of Internal Medicine, the journal of the American College of Physicians – American Society of Internal Medicine, is launching a new concept in case-based continuing medical education, "Quality Grand Rounds." In the lead editorial of the June 4 edition of the Annals, Robert M. Wachter, MD, of University of California, San Francisco and four other colleagues explain the concept:
"In contrast to traditional clinical-pathologic conferences (CPCs), in which the discussant focuses on diagnosing the disease based on the patient’s presenting symptoms, the focus in Quality Grand Rounds is on diagnosing the systems problems that led to a serious error or adverse outcome for the patient."
