Laptops in the Lecture Hall
The more than 500 physicians who attended the Vascular Interventional Advances Conference in October at the Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino in Las Vegas got some very interactive learning experiences, thanks to computers in the lecture hall. Among the perks were live streamed content, individual question and answer, and polling.
"The doctors are very excited about
this new opportunity for learning," says Andy Kochendorfer, the
operations manager for ON24,
which provided the system. Kochendorfer also served as the on-site
technical coordinator. "Creating a private LAN for over 500
desktops during the event was no small task, and this is the
largest interactive training system for an event that I'm aware
of," he says. "Not only were the doctors able to interact with the
presenters and experts during the event and respond to live polling
questions, they also received live slide and video content streamed
directly to each desktop. The doctors got a high-resolution view of
detailed live surgery video."
Each physician also could access on-demand content—including patient cases and instructional materials—on a Web site created. During and after the event, the event staff could access a database of information detailing attendee physician questions, answers from the experts, attendee logons, and survey responses by attendee.
